Eligibility and Positions Requirements
Educational Qualification for NET
To be eligible for the UGC NET examination, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Candidates must have a Master's Degree (or equivalent PG degree) from a UGC-recognized university in a relevant subject.
- Minimum Marks: Candidates belonging to the General/Unreserved/EWS categories must secure at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree.
- Relaxation: Candidates from OBC (NCL), SC, ST, PwD, and third gender categories receive a 5% relaxation, requiring a minimum of 50% marks.
- Appearing Candidates: Final year or final semester students of a Master's degree program can provisionally apply. They must complete their degree with the required percentage within two years from the date of the NET result.
Positions Available and Age Limits
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The maximum age limit is **30 Years** as of December 1, 2025 (the first day of the month in which the examination is conducted). Age relaxation of up to 5 years is applicable for reserved categories (OBC, SC, ST, PwD) and women applicants as per government norms.
- Assistant Professor: There is **No Upper Age Limit** for the post of Assistant Professor. Eligibility for this post is lifelong.
A candidate qualifying for JRF is automatically eligible for Assistant Professor. Candidates who only meet the cutoff for Assistant Professor will be eligible for that position alone.
